Natasha Denona Gloom Palette | A gorgeous, grungy palette for this season!
I actually never picked up the Mini Gloom palette because while I loved the colors individually, I didn’t feel I could coordinate the look in the way I wanted. This one though is the perfect expansion for me! (And a welcome departure from the “I Need A…” series, at least for a bit.

While advertised as a cooler palette, I personally think it’s really just a more muted one that can lean cooler or warmer depending on the look you’re going for. This isn’t as easy to use as a neutral palette but only for the reason that introducing more color means you also need to introduce more thought into planning the look – so it’s not one I’m grabbing when I only have 10 minutes! The formulas though caused me no issue, and I have loved what I’ve created through it. You already know I love the taupes, but quarry is so special too.
There are a total of five formulas in this one: Creamy Matte, Silky Matte, Sparkling Foiled, Metallic, and Duochrome. The first four appear in other ND Midi palettes pretty consistently, but I was intrigued to see how duochrome would be with the evolution of ND’s formulas over time… and was unfortunately disappointed.

Admittedly, indie shifty shadows have absolutely spoiled me for years now, and while I don’t expect that type of impact from a mainstream brand, I do expect a duochrome to be something more than flat? It really doesn’t have much shine at all and comes across much closer to a satin. It was also a bit finicky for me to build. This type of shade is one that I would typically apply to brighten an area or bring highlighted dimension, but it both doesn’t bring the shine nor the brightness. (Though the brightness is almost definitely because of my skin tone as I’ve seen in look gorgeous on those deeper than me.)
Included after the swatches are comparisons to other Natasha Denona palettes, including Metropolis. Let me know if you have any other requests!
This type of color story really got me in my fall feels as the leaves are starting to change. Are you picking it up?
