Byredo Borealis Palette | The one that immediately stole my heart.

Despite how highly anticipated these palettes are each holiday season, I tend to be very selective about whether or not I pick it up and scrutinize every detail before deciding. Let’s face it – they’re large and pricy! This one though genuinely gripped me, both for the color story and the theme.

Inspired of course by the aurora borealis, this is absolutely reminiscent of both the still arctic landscape and the incredible dancing sky. It offers a range of lighter pastels, more grounded earthy tones, and some serious celestial shine. You can get looks that are beautifully ethereal all the way to a striking smoky eye.

The formula of these shadows lean on the drier side, which is actually quite impressive for how high-octane some of these finishes are and that I think will make the palette more universal without fighting emollience. They’re all really soft and have a silkiness to them from how smooth they are.

With less binder can come more fallout, so I absolutely recommend using a primer for this palette in general and a glitter/sticky primer for the more intense shades like the silver. Some of the softer pastels like the light lime have the sort of texture where the shimmer is interspersed throughout the entire formula but can “fluff up” a little while blending – so while not entirely separating from the base pigment, a primer will help it to have a more consistent finish. The shimmer is so fine and well done though that it twinkles across your lids in such a refined, sophisticated way.

For me, this palette encourages creativity while still knowing I’m going to end up with a look I love. The selection of these shades and finishes give a comfortable foundation while adding some magic.

It also reminds me of an incredibly special trip my husband and I took to Norway, traveling past the Arctic Circle all the way to North Cape in the winter and being completely mesmerized by the beauty all around us. It’s for that reason I knew I would be biased towards loving this palette and am so glad the formulas hold up.

I’d love to know what you think!
