About Tone Skin Layer Fit Blush | The epitome of “anti-blush” deserves its moment.
As a baseline, I’ve interpreted this “anti-blush” trend as a more subtle, beige-for-your-skin blush (in direct opposition to “blush blindness” stemming from the bright, saturated shades commonly launched in the last few years). For many and especially for those with fair skin, this often translates into a soft, muted shade that doesn’t stray too far from your natural skin depth. With this interpretation and ABOUT_TONE’s most recent additions to the line, this brand simply cannot be left out of the conversation as it describes at least half of their liquid blush offering.
The Skin Layer Fit Blusher is a liquid blush with two different types: Cover Fit and Water Fit. The Cover Fit types (beginning with C) have a thicker, almost moussey consistency with a natural finish, while the Water Fit types (beginning with W) are slightly thinner with a glowy finish. However, both liquids are dense enough to hold their shape on the applicator and offer decent color payoff.
My experience with these formulas are that they blend extremely easily, last all day, and are super comfortable to wear. I think the “fluffiness” of the formula that allows it to keep its shape also lends to a near-weightless feeling on the cheeks. Especially impressive for the Water Fit is that it keeps that glowy finish without ever being sticky – I can actually run my fingers over the blush and not get any transfer but still maintain that fresh effect.
And of course, the tones. The ones I have are all a bit grayed out, with the brightest being W08 (which is still more muted in person, but saturated in comparison!). I do think it’s important to note that while the shade numbers between the finishes are similar in tone, they are not exactly the same, so something to account for if you strongly prefer one finish over the other.
I use all of them in rotation, and they’re one of my “vanity residents” to reach for when I just don’t want to think about how to best match my blush to my makeup as both the formula and shades are so easy to work with. That being said, given the primary market of ABOUT_TONE, these are definitely on the lighter side and certainly not for anyone deeper than a light skin tone.
As for the packaging, the compact size would lead you to believe that you’re getting significantly less product, but that actually isn’t the case. The amount of product held in a typical liquid blush tends to vary, but these are very similar in size to the Huda Beauty Blush Filter.
The applicator is also a bit unique, having a curve to it that pretty closely hugs the apples of your cheeks. I personally don’t find it more or less comfortable compared to other applicators, more just a unique feature worth noting.
There are definitely more options on the market now for this look, but with how limited they were previously, I’m taking the opportunity to revel in this focus on more muted tones (and hopefully one that leads to more options being available to all skin depths).
