About Face Fractal Eye Paints | Of course the most natural follow-up to my prior post would be these!
This formula is really only similar to the Matte Fluid Eye Paints in the sense that they’re both buildable and long wearing. Other than that, they’re really quite different.
While the mattes are quite a bit more thin and liquidy (but still well-controlled), these are a much more fluffy, whipped, moussey texture while still drying down smoothly to that budge-proof, fallout-resistant finish.
These can be applied to either have a more sheer application or more full coverage as seen in the split swatches. I find that the more sheer application is easier with the lighter colors; this product does dry very quickly making it a little tricky to evenly disperse the base pigment within the working time, and sheering out the darker colors can make that pigment appear a little patchy. However, keep in mind that this is much less noticeable if you already have some color applied to your lids.
If you choose to layer these for a fuller coverage look and also to get more of that high impact shine, definitely let the prior layer fully dry before going back in (though as above, this doesn’t take long!). This will ensure that the product already applied doesn’t lift and create gaps, allowing you to instead achieve even coverage. Personally I’d recommend not going beyond two thin layers (as shown here), as they can start to look a little thick after that point.
They also of course have glitter, but the particles are quite small and have yet to give me issues (*insert sensitive eye description here*). In general though, if you’re worried about glitter particles disturbing your eyes while washing them off, you can always take a bit of lightly tacky tape to remove the majority.
Regarding the packaging, it’s the same component as the mattes but with kind of a satin finish instead of matte for differentiation. It’s not slippery though so still pretty easy to hold! I wouldn’t say that more product is deposited on the doe foot in the component, but from my experience with the differently-shaped applicator, it is more concentrated in the center. The wider middle allows for quicker broad application, while the pointed end gives more precision.
Lastly, these do dry out quite a bit quicker, and I’ve seen other reviews say the same – unsure if this is related to switching from the original packaging (though I’m very glad they did) but something to be aware of. I’ve been able to rehydrate mine, but I don’t really recommend doing this multiple times and definitely not beyond their expiry. As always, keep an eye on any changes (formula, shade, etc.) and only continue to use according to your comfort level.
Since these sit at exactly the same price point as the mattes, all notes about pricing and affordability applies here as well. I think they’re a great, more flashy counterpart to the mattes as they retain that versatility and flexibility while amping everything up a bit.
Overall, a bit more finicky but nothing unusual for a glitter, and one that I feel very comfortable using since they don’t flake off throughout the day!
