Mature Beauty Velvet Eyeliner | These appeared on my radar when Sofia Sees Beauty shared them in a livestream, and some of the community commented how they felt similar to VBB liners. If you’ve seen my previous post on those, you know the deep love I hold for them.
While I admittedly don’t yet have “vintage” skin (😉), I do have two features that can be troublesome for makeup mentioned previously – extremely sensitive eyes and hooded lids. It’s for this reason that I need formulas to be gentle but enduring.
These are definitely a kajal style liner, being quite creamy and smooth to apply and offering some time to blend, but subsequently setting down to be more long-wearing. They do not tug or skip and have not caused me any irritation. The only note I have so far is that the shimmer slightly transferred to my lid, but in fairness, I was not wearing eyeshadow primer and may have a different experience when I do.

Because of the comparison made to VBB, I wanted to pick these up in shades I felt I didn’t already have in my collection. While I unexpectedly found very close alternatives, I am thrilled I did. Let me explain.
Champagne Bronze is the exact type of nuanced shade I love. It holds space for the full spectrum of skin undertones and eye colors, having a neutral-to-cool base with a warmer reflect. It is so similar to VBB Smoky Quartz that I think you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if unlabeled.

Steel Gray is a similarly uncommon color – so much so that it is nearly identical in tone to Chanel’s 98 Bleu Twill released as part of the Denim Collection earlier this year. Really the only discernable difference is that Steel Gray has a bit more depth, which I actually prefer and makes it both more versatile and accommodating.

Worth mentioning that Mature Beauty’s eyeliners are about $10 cheaper than either of those, with an additional discount when buying more than one.
While it will certainly take a bit more time to know if these will match VBB in performance and color selection, I’m comfortable saying they’re at least very solid. Eyeliners are the brand’s first release, and I’m excited to see what’s in store!
