MAC Cosmetics Frost Lipstick | These were recently relaunched with a mix of bringbacks, new shades, and classics! (Most shades are also available at Macy’s.)

Shown here are two new shades (Teddy Metal, TV Gold) and three bringback shades (Chintz, Spanish Fly, Jet). I did also purchase Gel (classic) which unfortunately was shipped separately and arrived after taking these shots but is gorgeous for adding a bit of light. For reference, it’s just slightly deeper and slightly warmer than my skintone, making it really versatile in my collection.

I have to say, I’m thrilled with every single one I picked up. Going for the neutrals was an intentional choice so that I could essentially use them as mixers to either adjust a lip color tone or shine, and they’re all perfect for that. The flip in Spanish Fly isn’t super visible unless you really layer it, so it can act more as a shade to warm things up a bit.

The ones that surprised me the most were Chintz and TV Gold. When searching for reference photos, Chintz could either look almost like a deeper beige or an orange-leaning bronze, but it doesn’t pull too warm on me at all. TV Gold is one of the most special shades I’ve ever encountered. It’s like if you iced up a greige? Literally have never seen anything else like it.

Teddy Metal will definitely serve as a wearable pinkish nude for many folks, and Jet is a cool, almost steely charcoal.

Frost lipsticks can be very divisive, so I know they’re not for everyone but hopefully this will serve as a source for those who are deciding which shades to pick up, or maybe even demonstrate how much more approachable they can look when worn sheerly! Personally, I love using them as a way to bring luminosity back to matte or satin lips without having to pull out a gloss, especially since there’s only fine pearl and no glitter or shimmer. Sometimes I just don’t want the maintenance (due to transfer) or look (due to shine) of a gloss, so this type of finish is a great way to bring more options to existing lip combos.

What do you think of this launch? Are you just as excited to see frosts return, or are they not at all your thing?
