About Face Ballet Beam Highlighting Pearls

Ballet Beam Highlighting Pearls have surprised me in the best way.

These are a cream-to-powder with a soft (but not too soft) texture such that they apply smoothly without excess emollience. I purchased mine in the shade Pirouette, and there is another more rosy/bronze colorway in the shade Arabesque.

Full disclosure: I bought these to use as eyeshadow vs. a face highlighter, as the separated pastel colors really appealed to me as sheer toppers/shifts and pinpoint highlights. That being said, all of the colors swatched together make a beautiful glossy champagne actually light enough for my skin tone. This will be on the more intense side for a highlighter – especially if you’re picking up enough product to mix all of the shades together – and therefore does have some visible shimmer but less than I was anticipating.

More than that, these spark genuine joy to use. They’re FUN! Something about them reminds me of that childlike appeal to initially discovering makeup and just having pure, unadulterated play. Not in the way that these are unsophisticated formulas – quite the contrary! – but rather about the presentation and color choices. To be fair, the brand has always had that effect on me to some degree, this just feels like the epitome of it.

Halsey, thank you for reminding us lifelong makeup lovers what brought us here in the first place and simultaneously bringing us innovative, high performing formulas that meet us where we are while bringing us that same level of playfulness.

If you’ve picked these up, how do you like them? If you haven’t, have these popped back up on your radar?
