Lisa Eldridge Mimetic Pearl Lip Colour | A product I wouldn’t have believed could be universally flattering until I tried it.

The Mimetic Pearl Lip Colour is a brand new formula introduced this holiday season, combining a cream base with pearls to give a luminous, multi-dimensional look with a single product. It’s incredibly smooth to apply, and the base shade is saturated with pigment, allowing you to get full coverage with one swipe directly from the bullet or otherwise tap it on to deposit less at a time.

There are two aspects that genuinely surprised me. The first is that this formula in no way highlights dry patches (at least on my lips), which can be a very common pitfall with these types of finishes. This makes it so that even if you haven’t gone in with a specific exfoliating step ahead of time, this will still lay really nicely, delivering the same ease you expect from a bullet lipstick.

The second – and I really should have known better with Lisa’s nuanced eye – is that both of these shades have looked genuinely stunning on everyone I’ve seen wear them. That may not be so shocking for Ruby, which is a classic, blue-based red that is quintessentially holiday season. Spinel though? Described as a rich caramel-rose, I was concerned this would pull too saturated or warm, and it’s not done either – on any skin tone or undertone ranging from fair to deep and cool/neutral/warm/olive. I don’t know how she did it, but this might relieve some trepidation if you had similar concerns.

Regarding the pearl, I can’t feel additional texture on my lips. However, if you’re someone who has a strong aversion to shimmer sticking around once the base pigment leaves, this product is not immune. For reference, I experienced more of the pearl sticking around with Spinel vs. Ruby, which I think you can see from the unfocused blended swatch especially. It’s not more than with a high-shimmer lip gloss per se, but definitely worth mentioning in case it’s something you avoid.

The holiday packaging is robust, high quality, and very giftable with the lipsticks coming in the standard, beautiful component as well. What do you think?
